Congratulations Kevin McLean!
Kevin McLean of Price Landscaping and his partner Andrew Maker from Ernie’s Landscaping in Saint John are provincial champions of the 2018 Skills Canada Competition in Landscape Gardening!
Skills Canada is dedicated to celebrating the work of skilled tradespeople. Their mission is to encourage and support a coordinated Canadian approach to promoting skilled trades and technologies through their yearly Skills Canada National Competition as well as through provincial and territorial competitions hosted by member organizations..
On April 20th, landscapers from across the province gathered at NBCC Moncton to compete at the provincial landscape skills competition. As the winning team, Kevin and Andrew will now go on to represent NB at the 24th Annual Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton from June 3-6.
The purpose of the Landscape Gardening challenge was to evaluate the expertise of future landscape horticulturists in layout, construction and installation of hardscape and softscape elements.
Each team was required to layout and build a landscape construction project as described by provided construction plans and details. The test project involved preparing and installing various materials, such as natural stone, precast concrete, wood, planting media, mulch, plants and other landscape elements. Technical skills were tested, and our team came out on top!
Kevin is a Block 3 Apprentice of the Landscape Horticulture Apprentice Program. He recently won the Jakob Duncan Award, presented by the Landscape Horticulture Training Institute of Landscape New Brunswick. This award is given in recognition of enthusiasm and dedication to the Red Seal trade program.
Congratulations on your achievements Kevin! We’re proud of you!
